AI-Tutor Kim / Duden Learnattack
The Duden Learnattack platform supports registered students with an AI tutor: Kim accompanies them around the clock with tips and learning content for math, German and English.
Nine years ago, we realized Duden Learnattack based on Drupal. Since then, we have been continuously developing the platform. The implementation of the AI learning companion is the latest expansion stage of the successful e-learning offering. Kim is optimized for school-based learning and offers secure access to ChatGPT (GPT-4). The tool accesses Cornelsen's learning videos and exercises and automatically filters out personal data. As it is tailored to specific learning needs according to the curricula, other topics are excluded. This ensures interaction between Kim and the users, with the focus on conveying relevant information.

For Duden/Cornelsen, it is very important to ensure security in the exchange between Kim and the learners. Requests to the AI tutor are therefore not sent directly to the language model.
UEBERBIT created the conditions for a positive user experience while taking all security requirements into account. Questions to Kim are anonymized via a secure intermediate layer. This “proxy” uses technology from the company Ezri. UEBERBIT's backend team was responsible for connecting the API (interface programming), while the frontend unit took care of the user interface and the implementation of Duden Learnattack's design.
The AI feature of Learnattack is a milestone in the further development of the e-learning platform. Kim significantly enhances the Cornelsen offering, as the tool is an additional, contemporary service for the target groups that meets all safety guidelines. Its appealing design also makes Kim a likeable mascot for everyday school life.
