The symphony orchestra is one of the world's leading ensembles and regularly performs in large and small ensembles at venues in Vienna as well as on international stages and at renowned festivals such as the Bregenz Festival. It is also involved in numerous opera productions at the Theater in Vienna, underlining its important role in Vienna's cultural life. At the start of the 125th anniversary season in April 2024, we replaced the previous, very old Vienna Symphony Orchestra website with a completely new one.
Before we got started, we successfully won the extensive tendering process with our submitted concept and a personal presentation in Vienna. With the official contract in the bag, we were finally able to get to know each other personally in a one-day kick-off workshop and share initial conceptual ideas, which we then developed into a comprehensive concept for structure, UX and system architecture over the following weeks.
Conceptually, the focus was primarily on the development of an intuitive user flow for ticketing, a low-threshold and user-friendly search function and the creation of the “Digital experience” area, in which social media content from different channels was to be presented in a collected form.
We based the visual design of the website on the existing corporate design and expanded it for use in digital media and the resulting accessibility requirements.
With the introduction of Drupal as the core of our system architecture, we were also able to impress with the technical concept. We mapped a large part of the website content as entities in Drupal and fed these from the central scheduling software, in which the orchestra's artistic operations office manages all season planning, castings, personnel schedules, billing, etc. We also supplemented our overall system architecture. In addition, we supplemented our overall system with a link to the ticket store, the integration of Flockler for social media content, the integration of the CMT Consent Manager and the setup of server side tracking
