Splash Awards 2025: Several German projects among the winners
At this year's Splash Awards Germany and Austria, which were presented at a festive ceremony on October 15th, 2025 at the Palais Wertheim in Vienna, numerous German projects also made it onto the winners' podium.
For the seventh time, the Splash Awards Germany and Austria were presented to the best Drupal projects in both countries. A total of 21 projects competed in seven different categories, including Enterprise, Publishing & Media, Solutions, and Non-Profit. As always, the submitted projects covered a wide range of industries: from digital solutions for the public sector, such as the Bavarian State Forestry Department, to systems and portals for non-profit organisations such as TelefonSeelsorge Deutschland e.V., to enterprise solutions for Volkswagen AG and Dole.
The strong participation in Austrian projects was striking this year: almost half of all submissions were entered by Austrian agencies and software service providers. This made it all the more exciting that, in the end, many German projects were able to secure one of the coveted awards and several second places.
Splash Awards 2025: 4 winners, 3 runners-up for German projects
A total of four German projects received a Splash Award, with another three achieving runner-ups:
The combined category of Publishing/Media and Education recognised the outstanding implementation of the AuPairWorld matching platform, submitted by the company itself.
The software agency Factorial from Hamburg won two awards during the evening: in the Enterprise category, it was recognised for its website relaunch for the global company Dole. In the Non-Profit category, the agency impressed with its digital operating system DAISIE for Telefonseelsorge Deutschland e.V.
In the Social/Community category, the website relaunch of the Splash Awards website by Bitmade Solutions from Essen secured a coveted award.
The runner-ups from Germany were the companies adesso and Sirup for the projects Bavarian State Forests – Modern multi-site platform for sustainable forestry (adesso), DHB.de – Innovative Drupal solution for German handball (adesso) and Handbook Germany: New here? The community for a successful start in Germany (Sirup).
Honorary Mentions: 5 special recognitions for German projects
For many years, the Splash Awards ceremony has also included the presentation of Honorary Mentions. These were introduced to give additional recognition to projects that stood out in particular areas, such as accessibility, design or contribution value, regardless of whether they made it onto the winners' podium or not.
Here, too, German submissions impressed the expert jury in the following areas:
“Design & UX” - adesso SE and its project: Bavarian State Forests – Modern multi-site platform for sustainable forestry
"Winner of the Hearts” - SIRUP GmbH and its project: New here? The community for a successful start in Germany
"Greatest Business Case" & “Quality of Execution” - AuPairWorld GmbH and its project: AuPairWorld – Future-proof architecture for the world's leading matching platform for au pairs and host families
"Biggest Contribution Value" - Bitmade Solutions GmbH and their project: Splash Awards website relaunch
Overall, the 7th edition of the Splash Awards Germany and Austria was a complete success for the German Drupal community. We congratulate all the winning teams and look forward to the next edition of the Splash Awards in 2026.
All information about the Splash Awards and when submissions for the next edition will be accepted can be found on the official website.
Community party as the grand finale of the award ceremony
Immediately following the Splash Awards ceremony, the official DrupalCon Vienna community party took place at Palais Wertheim with over 400 people in attendance. This provided a fitting conclusion for the award participants. In typical Viennese style, there was a sausage stand, live music from a local band and a lively evening for the conference and award participants.
Splash Awards: Drupal's Digital Award since 2014
The Splash Awards have been around since 2014 and are currently the only digital awards that focus exclusively on Drupal projects. The idea for the awards originated in the Netherlands and has since been adopted by numerous other countries. In Germany, home to the largest Splash Awards in Europe, the Splash Awards have been held annually since 2017 in collaboration with Drupal Austria. The award changes location every year and has already been held in Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich and Mannheim.
The location of next year's award ceremony has not yet been determined.
